Leadership Institute for Public Life

January 18 @ 6:00 pm - January 19 @ 4:00 pm

These two-day (10 hour) leadership institutes provide content based on the philosophy and practices developed by the Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF) in over 75 years of community organizing experience.

Two tracks will be offered with both providing the following basic content:

  • Why organize? – Rooted in the history, traditions, and values of our faith, labour and community organizations.
  • Fundamental organizing skills – Individual relational meetings, listening sessions, power analysis, group research, public action, and negotiations.
  • Strengthening our institutions – Increase member engagement and re-energize a sense of relevance and purpose by developing internal cultures that are relational, reflective and action-oriented.
  • Making meaningful change – Conduct effective campaigns to bring about significant change in areas like living incomes, housing, and mental health – exercising “power with” to create a fairer and just Edmonton.
