Living Wages, Mental Health, Senior and Immigrant Support

After months of listening and research, GEA members and allies will publicly launch their campaign to significantly improve the lives of struggling Edmontonians. As a first step in getting the City to enact GEA’s Agenda for a Better Edmonton, council candidates will be asked:

If elected will you push and vote for the following?

  1. A package of initiatives to improve Mental Health, including:
    1. Funding for mental health literacy and suicide prevention trainings;
    2. Supporting and/or creating initiatives to address isolation among seniors, immigrants and others;
    3. Supporting the development of self-help and peer support programs.
  2. A Living Wage ordinance requiring that a living wage be paid to all city employees and to all people employed in work paid for by the city through private sector contractors.
  3. A Sanctuary City ordinance that prioritizes public safety and fosters trusting relationships in immigrant communities by limiting the role city police may play in federal immigration enforcement.
  4. An expanded and ongoing funding source for the Seniors Home Supports Program.
