Celebrating 1o Years Of Social Action & Leadership Development

GEA celebrated its tenth anniversary in May 2015. In ten years we have accomplished a great deal and built a solid reputation among the politically engaged citizenship of Edmonton. GEA has become a force in the Capital Region.
  • GEA, through our tenant organizing campaigns, has created a model for how communities, renters, developers, affordable housing providers and the city can collaborate toward necessary infill redevelopment while integrating meaningful and real affordable housing opportunities.
  • GEA has reshaped and revolutionized Edmonton’s most statutory policy document, the Municipal Development Plan, by integrating food production and urban agricultural into how future land use decision will be made.
  • GEA has demonstrated the power and diversity of our alliance by turning out more than 500 people to city hall three times in less than two years, as well as turning out 1000 people to our founding assembly in 2005.
  • GEA through it’s efforts to develop the SustainableWorks Enterprise has built a strong coalition of environmental, labour, business, education and community organizations committed to good environmental stewardship, reducing financial burdens on families and creating apprenticeship opportunities for youth.
  • GEA has been listening to and organizing seniors in faith communities and have discovered tremendous unrest and worry related to issues, from home care, senior’s care, their overall healthcare and safety.
